Friends are important in just about everybody’s life. Nobody wants to have a friend that is not true to who they really are or are being your friend for the wrong reasons. Friendships many times last longer than romantic relationships so they need to be built on a strong foundation. If a friendship is built on lies, then it will never last. The good news is that there are ways in which you can spot fake friendships before they put you in a bad spot.
Spotting Bad Friends
One of the clear cut signs that show that your friend is not a true friend is if they make you feel guilty for not hanging out with them. Everybody has their own personal lives to do with and do not need to be made to feel guilty for not making time with every single friend they have. You probably stopped hanging out with them for a reason so chances are you should not start up again. Do not let them make you feel guilty for moving on with your life.
A friend who consistently makes promises that they are unable to keep are not good friends. These types of friends typically make plans with you that they have no plans of ever keeping. This is a friendship that is based mostly on lies and broken promises so you should not continue to pursue them. If they wanted to spend time with you then they would, and not make excuses as to why they can’t.
Friends and Disappointment
Friends who are consistently disappointing you are not your true friends. Disappointment can have a negative impact on how you feel as well as your ability to trust others. Studies have shown that disappointment and sadness can make your chest hurt and make you feel other types of emotional pain. People have had bad childhoods where their parents or other family members treated them badly, tend to have more than just emotional problems but physical problems as well. Sadness and disappointment can cause individuals to be depressed on a long-term basis.
When friends disappoint you it can be truly devastating. So if at all possible you should stay away from toxic individuals who are only out to hurt you. True friends make you feel good about yourself and not worse. You want to surround yourself with people who are positive and want what is best for you.
Conclusion
Surrounding yourself around good people and good friends really makes a great difference in the type of person you are and the type of people that you attract. Be kind to each other and try not to be disappoint your friends. Keep all of your good friends close to you and the bad ones far away for good.
