Working in the medical field implies being able to identify where trauma comes from. It’s the job of a healthcare professional to look at all possible causes of any trauma, especially if it is diagnosed in the head area. Many students participate in aggressive sports such as football, basketball and soccer. These games consist of collisions with one another and with the ball many injuries occur each year. Anytime that there is an injury to the head it’s important that an athlete goes in immediately to see a doctor to verify that a concussion or internal damage is not present.
Studies illustrate that a great deal of head injuries come from playing sports such as soccer in which the ball can travel up to 100 kilometers per hour. Most injuries occur in professional games where there is increased speed and collision between players. Even when there are low impacts it can make anyone more susceptible to injuries in the future. It’s important that athletes continuously get checkups and speculate their own health to make sure that they do not suffer any severe injuries.
Health care professionals such as neurologists and dentists study the human body to prevent injury, illness or uncomfortable aches and pains. As an athlete it’s important to get checked up regularly to ensure that there isn’t any fluid buildup or dislocations present. Neurologists specialize in diagnosing the nervous system and the spine which regulates the entire body. By studying these areas of the body they ensure that patients aren’t suffering from any disease or infections such as Parkinson’s or Epilepsy.
There are many athletes that suffer from poor dental health and fail to see an orthodontist because they don’t think about what physical impact the sport is having on their mouth area. Even though many sports require mouth pieces it doesn’t necessarily ensure that jaws and teeth are safe from harmful impact. Decaying teeth have a lot to do with sport drinks which contain a high amount of sugar. Teeth grinding is a common nervous habit of athletes which can chip the teeth or cause problems in the jaw area. While teeth do not necessarily affect one’s performance, it can cause infections which then spread throughout the body to the shoulders or back area. Not to mention, infections can be very painful.
Regardless of the sport you play it’s important to look into the health of each part of the body being that they are all linked to one another. If there is one area of the body that you are having a difficult time with it’s important to get it checked out right away so that you don’t suffer from major injuries. If you plan on playing sports professionally it’s even more important to make sure that your body feels strong and healthy.
