Petition to Support RHS

The First Nations Regional Longitudinal Health Survey (RHS) is the only national survey that is controlled solely by First Nations, for First Nations. Through unique data sharing agreements, the RHS can provide the data necessary for accountability of First Nation leaders and the federal government related to policies, programs and services.

The Aboriginal Peoples Survey (APS) is a Statistics Canada survey under the control of the Federal government. The last cycle of the APS could not produce valid regional or national statistics for First Nation communities/reserves.

I support research that respects our collective ownership, control, access and possession of our own health information.

Statement of Petition

We, the undersigned, call on the Federal government to redirect funding earmarked from the on-reserve portion of the Statistics Canada APS to the First Nations Regional Longitudinal Health Survey (RHS). I want First Nation information to be controlled by First Nations people.
